Hiding Unused Categories
A feature to hide categories without having to delete them explicitly. It would hide them from the Budget page and other areas. EX: I have a category that only is relevant from June to October 2026, so I want to hide it after October 2026.

I second this request. I find the budget page is overwhelming because I do not need to have a budget line for every category. I just need a handful. Having a way to hide or cancel out the uneeded ones would make it easier.

Hey you can do it now. Go to the categories page and delete or deactivate the ones you don’t want. (Select the category and press that eye icon)

Hey Brad,
We already have this functionality built into Accounts and Tags. I think we’d be able to do this pretty easily.
Tags can be a good use case for specific tracking that is temporary but I can see why you may want to have a temporary category to budget against.
One question: Would you expect the category to still show in filters or would you prefer that it also doesn’t show in filters?
Good suggestion! We’ll get this queued up.

Really, didn’t know that Tags can do it. Maybe it can show up in filters, thinking of a checkbox to toggle on and off visibility of hidden categories when you go to the categories page.

Yep! Tags are great for short-term things like vacations, events, projects, or anything temporary. Some people also use them as another layer of reporting, like tracking tax deductions, partner spend, or a specific goal.
For categories, I think the cleanest approach would be to handle them similarly to Accounts and Tags, where you can mark them as inactive instead of deleting them.
If an inactive category has activity in the selected budget, dashboard, or reporting period, it would still show so your historical numbers stay accurate. But if it doesn’t have any activity for that period, it would stay hidden from the normal category lists and budget setup areas.
That would let you retire something seasonal, like a June to October 2026 category, without losing the history tied to it. It also keeps the behavior consistent across Categories, Accounts, and Tags rather than introducing a separate “hidden category” concept just for categories.
This should be something we can rollout relatively quickly!
